Reading room and Archive window State Archive Basel-Stadt
Spatial interfaces for public access and presentation
With the State Archives Basel-Stadt and the Natural History Museum Basel set to share a new building in 2028, EM2N developed the overall architectural design. Within this transition, Unbound Trajectories contributed spatial scenarios and service design concepts for the State Archive Basel-Stadt, including the reading room and library, the “archive window” and the building plans archive.
From warning to orientation: visual systems under emergency conditions
Safety Design – Affiliated research project
Designing Safety was conceived as a research project on the visual, spatial and behavioural conditions that make safety signage legible under pressure. It examined signs as part of a wider safety system, shaped by colour, typography, form, placement, density and lighting conditions, in relation to the cognitive load of people acting in situations of stress.
The project aimed to connect expertise from visual communication, information design, spatial design, architecture, psychology, semantics, emergency management, organisational science and law. Through case studies such as Zurich Airport and a nuclear power plant, it explored how signage can support rapid orientation, collective movement and harm prevention, while strengthening accountability and trust in critical environments.
