Unbound Trajectories advised the State Archives of Basel-Stadt and St. Gallen in the development of their digital service design strategy. As repositories of collective memory, both state archives safeguard, preserve and communicate archival documents for present and future generations. Ensuring public access to verified documents and information is therefore a core democratic responsibility.
Guided by this premise, the two institutions jointly developed a multipurpose online access point to their archives. The resulting digital platform (“Digitaler Lesesaal”) responds to current service needs within the digital knowledge society and provides a foundation for future development. It was prepared through a comprehensive development trajectory comprising institutional strategy, a participatory service design exploration and a user-centred service design strategy.
